On September 23rd, in a follow-up to the League’s Material Operations event earlier this summer, Inform Interiors presents Maneuvers and Manipulations with architect John Patkau. Building on the research projects that define their Material Operations work, Maneuvers and Manipulations is an exploration into the application of this knowledge in the real world.

Patkau Architects is the renowned firm behind the Audain Art Museum in Whistler, the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver, and the new School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC Vancouver.

In 2010, after three decades of conventional material practice, Patkau Architects launched a formal research program titled Material Operations. This initiative explored how everyday construction materials, when paired with modest yet unconventional methods, could generate expressive, evocative forms with inherent structural strength. Since the publication of Patkau Architects: Material Operations in 2017, the firm has sought opportunities to apply these investigations in their work.
