The seismic resiliency of the Museum of Anthropology’s Great Hall at UBC was evaluated and a complete rebuild was determined.
On May 11, 2022, join UBC SALA in partnership with Inform Interiors as they host architect Nick Milkovich, along with structural engineer Eric Karsh, to discuss the ongoing renovations of the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. The seismic resiliency of the Museum of Anthropology’s Great Hall at UBC was evaluated and a complete rebuild was determined to be the best solution over a structural retrofit. Such a complex rebuild involves a sensitive approach that will follow conservation principles addressing both heritage values and character-defining elements of the site and the recognized architecture.
Nick Milkovich
Nick Milkovich was a member of the original design team for the Museum of Anthropology at UBC while working at Arthur Erickson Architects. He went on to establish Nick Milkovich Architects in 1991. The firm has designed numerous notable projects including šx????n?q Xwtl’e7én? Square and Robson Square plaza surrounding the Vancouver Art Gallery, and is currently working on the seismic and envelope upgrades at MOA. In 1997, Nick became a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and received the AIBC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.
