At Home with Gordon Smith
The force behind design and culture magazine Inventory, Ryan Willms takes a special trip to visit key modernist artist Gordon Smith, who at nearly 100 years old stays active and makes the most of his verdantly nestled home in West Vancouver’s Lighthouse Park. Willms explains:
“Gordon is still painting, curating and travelling like somebody in their 60s. He’s a truly unique character that helps bond Vancouver’s art community together, not the least through his enthusiasm. One thing that stands out about him is his pure enjoyment of art and artists. He’s truly a fan of his predecessors, his contemporaries and of younger generations. He’s supportive and engaged, with a wonderful sense of humour. Gordon’s home is designed by Arthur Erickson, a celebrated architect known for his modern designs, open spaces, use of hard angles, and mixing of glass and concrete alongside nature.” – Nowness Magazine
