Harwood is a 17-storey condominium tower in the quiet West End neighbourhood of downtown Vancouver. Completed in 2017, the building was designed by Bing Thom Architects (now Revery Architecture) on the site of the former Legg Residence, an 1899-built heritage mansion. The building sits atop a series of terraced gardens, following the slope of the neighbourhood, and next to a 120-year-old Tulip tree saved during the process of redevelopment. Taking on a slender rectilinear form eased with curved, cantilevered balconies wrapping either end, the design provides dramatic views to the northwest and southeast for its residents, each floor encompassing a single dwelling. Adorning the skin of the building is a system of operable, perforated, marine-grade stainless steel sliding screens using a pointillist leaf-pattern to provide solar shading.
