Vancouver’s post-modern interpretation of the Crystal Palace in London’s Hyde Park, the British Columbia Pavilion was originally constructed for the 1986 World Exposition on Transportation and Communication, dubbed Expo ’86. Part of a larger complex of pavilions and exhibitions celebrating British Columbia, including the Plaza of Nations, among others, the BC Pavilion and the accompanying roof cover of the outdoor plaza were constructed primarily of steel space frames and glass. The complex was designed by Picek Architects with Waisman Dewar Grout Carter.
Since Expo ’86, the British Columbia Pavilion has been a space for community events, television shows, the Edgewater Casino, and most recently a concert venue under the name Harbour Centre.
