Meet the Speakers

Julian Carnrite
Julian started his career in architecture in Vancouver working on high profile projects such as the Fairmont Pacific Rim where he honed his skills in spacial planning and developed a discipline of thoroughness and precision with design. After several years working in Vancouver, Julian and his wife Genevieve felt compelled to leave the city grind and begin a new, meaningful life in the Gulf Islands. After not long, and with the support of a strong community, they took a leap of faith and started their own practice, W O V E N Architecture and Design.
The practice specializes in West Coast Modern custom residential design with a philosophy that approaches all aspects of design as a cohesive whole where architecture, landscape, and interiors are ‘woven’ together.
Since starting W O V E N in 2017, Julian and Geneveive have taken on increasingly complex projects, expanding their staff as well as the areas in which they work. Julian continues to work closely with Clients to provide functional concepts which are translated into beautiful forms, integrated within the stunning landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. He is motivated with the belief that elegance is the result of strong and simple ideas executed thoughtfully and carefully.
W O V E N Architecture and Design’s projects range in size and complexity and are located in the Pacific Northwest. All projects are unique due to the client’s requirements and the specific nature of each building site. Every aspect of a given project is thoughtfully considered with a holistic approach to deliver beautiful forms woven into the landscape.

Bruce Greenway
Bruce Greenway founded Greenway Studio Architecture to create nature-inspired buildings and spaces that seek to merge with the landscape they inhabit, approach environmental sustainability, and connect with what is meaningful to the people that live and work in them. The studio specializes in unique single family homes, yoga/wellness retreats, and community meeting places. It’s award winning work has been featured in local and international journals.
Bruce was introduced to architecture at 14 by a book with pictures of buildings by Antonio Gaudí and the ‘Organic’ Architecture of Bruce Goff and Frank Lloyd Wright. This early inspiration set his course in life and became the roots for his current work.
Pacific West Coast of BC has been home for 20 years. He loves to draw and paint the experiences of extended travel in Africa, Asia, South America, and coach his kid’s sports teams. He worked as a carpenter’s apprentice while in university and, with his wife, built the house in Victoria that they live in.

On the Boards Local Speaker Series
On the Boards is the West Coast Modern League’s ongoing speaker series that turns focus on our local designers, to those who are carrying forward the strong traditions of design on Canada’s west coast. These events provide an opportunity for the community to come together in celebration of design, to share in recent works being undertaken right here in our own backyard, and to offer inspiration to us all.
Design Victoria Festival
Design Vancouver Festival is a citywide festival featuring exhibitions, lectures, networking events, walking tours, open studios and more, all hosted by Vancouver’s thriving design community. You may remember this event from before when it was known as Vancouver Design Week. We are going to carry on this beautiful community-driven festival. Design Vancouver Festival brings together designers of all disciplines, design enthusiasts, and friends and patrons of the design community.
