The Melnikov House, designed by architect Konstantin Melnikov for himself and his family, is an icon of the Russian architectural avant-garde. The experimental cylindrical structure was built between 1927 and 1929 to test Melnikov’s concepts for mass-produced housing.⁠

On February 27, 2020, the League welcomed the @iconichouses North American Lecture Tour featuring Moscow's Melnikov House. Pavel Kuznetsov, Director of the Konstantin and Viktor Melnikov State Museum and Deputy Director of the Schusev State Museum of Architecture in Moscow, spoke about the history of Melnikov House, a fascinating icon of 20th century Russian architecture, and the tragic life of its architect Konstantin Melnikov in a collectivist society.

Intended to provide shelter from the rain and to i

Intended to provide shelter from the rain and to illuminate the dark shadow of a neighbouring tower, the bus shelter frames one edge of Vancouver's most prominent public plaza. Set along the ceremonial Georgia Street, and anchored to the Vancouver Art Gallery (by Sir Francis Mawson Rattenbury) and Robson Square (by Arthur Erickson and Cornelia Hahn Oberlander), this public square carries a long history of public celebration, ceremony, and protest. ⁠

Formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza, the public space was renamed to šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, following its rehabilitation, in cooperation with the Coast Salish peoples – xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) – on whose traditional, ancestral, unceded territories the plaza resides.⁠
